The Institute for Educational Advancement (IEA) will host an open house for families interested in STEAM education on Saturday, October 16th, from 3 pm – 6 pm. Stop by IEA’s Learning Center and experience some of their Academy program’s curriculum with hands-on learning and play to stimulate the love of STEAM in gifted youth.
Janelle Wellons, an MIT graduate working at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, will answer questions about creating good through STEAM. Currently, she is an Instrument Operations Engineer on the earth observing missions Sentinel-6, SWOT, and the Multi-Angle Imager for Aerosols. She has previously operated scientific instruments on the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter at the Moon and the Cassini mission to Saturn.
IEA will also have an outdoor exhibit from Nonscriptum LLC (www.nonscriptum.com). Nonscriptum’s principals, Joan Horvath and Rich Cameron, also teach for IEA’s Academy Program and will have geometry and other math and science models from their recent book, Make: Geometry, available for attendees to try out. Will you be able to solve their ancient Greek puzzles?
Social distancing and masks will be required for admission to the event. All attendees will be temperature-checked upon arrival. Location: IEA 540 N Marengo Ave Pasadena, CA 91101
