About this speaker
Dice Yamaguchi is a PCC alumni, originally hailing from New York City. Prior to PCC he studied Mechanical Engineering and also worked as a bicycle frame builder in Boston and in Oakland. Through PCC’s Product Design program, Dice was able to attend ArtCenter’s Product Design program. At ArtCenter, he focused on Sustainable Design. Interning at Black and Decker, Dice was the first intern to have a product released to market as a student. Also while a student, Dice developed and sold a product called LaptopSticks, a collapsible laptop stand made from bamboo. It proved very popular, helping fund his studies and providing exposure and experience developing a self launched product.
Upon graduating in 2008, Dice worked as a Design Engineer at Applied Minds, working on everything from satellite designs to aircraft interiors, the 10,000 year clock for Google and consumer electronics. Dice was next hired to be the UX Lead for Magellan GPS, designing their interfaces and working with the ID team on Outdoor and Fitness GPS devices. The Magellan Navigation iPhone app he designed was featured as the "App of the Week" on the Apple App Store.
In 2011, Dice transitioned to teaching full-time, teaching at both ArtCenter and PCC, and eventually becoming the lead Industrial Design faculty at PCC, returning to where he began his journey pursuing Product Design.
